Flytco Faces of Disc Golf - Featuring Pro Disc Golfer and Dynamo Sara Sinclair
What got you into disc golf initially?
I played competitive ultimate frisbee when I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). I initially attended IUP as a music education major with a focus in classical piano and bass clarinet. My piano professor, Mr. Fry, was the school’s cross-country coach and the team trained on a former ski hill where there was also a permanent disc golf course, the IUP College Lodge. Mr. Fry pointed out that if I liked ultimate, I might enjoy disc golf. I played my first round with him and shot probably 40 over par. I wouldn’t say I was immediately hooked, but my boyfriend at the time also started playing and within a couple months, I played the 2018 Pennsylvania State Championship, which just so happened to be at the IUP College Lodge course that year. I became a PDGA member in 2009, and I’ve been competing ever since!

Do you play for sport, hobby, competitively?
I started playing professionally in 2014 after I placed second at the PDGA Amateur World Championship. I have a full-time job, so I try to plan my vacation time very strategically every year so I can play as many big events as possible. My PDGA number is 41012.
What is your favorite reason to play disc golf?
Disc golf fulfills so many of my life’s desires:
- Disc golf gives me the opportunity to travel to places around the country and world that I normally wouldn’t have visited.
- I find inspiration and happiness from spending time in nature.
- I have met some of my best friends through disc golf.
- I thrive off of self-motivation – setting goals and attaining them.
- I have found many opportunities to explore my other passions in the disc golf world, including running the largest annual mixed doubles disc golf tournament in the world that raises money for cancer research and co-hosting the weekly PDGA Radio podcast.
What other sports or hobbies do you have?
- I love to work out, kayak/SUP, trail run and do classical ballet.
- My three dogs, Otis Redding, Bruno Mars and John Coltrane, are my life.
- I used to have a custom bow tie business called Lambow Ties and still make some ties upon request.
- International travel - Last year we went to France and Africa, and this November, we are headed to New Zealand. Our big trip next year will be South America and Antarctica!
Although I eventually changed my major to journalism and obtained a graduate degree in marketing, I still enjoy playing piano, guitar and singing – look me up on SoundCloud: Sara Lambo Sinclair
- Going to concerts
How does your love for nature play into your love of disc golf?
I love exploring unique locations that are not necessarily popular destinations, and disc golf enables me to do that. One of my favorites things to do is play a solo round, making sure to take time to appreciate and enjoy my surroundings. I call this “going to church.”
"Going to church." - Yes we love that Sara! We are on board with that for sure!

Do you have a favorite course or place you have played before?
Tell us a bit about you and your life. How does disc golf fit in?
Because I work full time, disc golf isn’t usually my top priority. I have considered taking a break from my corporate job and going on the road full time, but I thrive off of variety and I don’t think I would be happy doing one thing day in and day out. My disc golf career has been a rollercoaster over the past 10+ years – at times I get burned out and need a break and then without fail, I always fall back in love with it. Because I play professionally, it can sometimes feel like a lot of pressure to play well. Over the past year, I have learned to be easier on myself when I don’t have a lot of time to practice – you get out what you put in after all!

Do you have any advice for someone who is just getting into disc golf?
Play with a lot of different people and watch a lot of YouTube videos! You will see a lot of different types of forms, throws and strategies on the course. Before I met my husband in 2014, I had no idea what I was doing. No one taught me correct form, technique etc. Since then, he has helped me overcome several issues that were holding me back. If I had sought a teacher earlier on, I think I would have progressed faster.
